A video of the incident which went viral on social media shows several right wing members barging into dargah as they chanted ‘Jai Shree Ram’ and other slogans like ‘Ek hi naara, ek hi naam, Jai Shree Ram’ waving saffron flags.
Despite the presence of a police officer, the members continued to chant slogans and performed aarti (pooja). Many can be seen members proudly recording the entire incident.
The Haji Malang Dargah which is located in Thane district on Malang Gad hill visited by people of all faiths is alleged to be a temple by few Hindus from a long time. Now, with the video going viral, the debate has resurfaced.
The dargah is believed to be the shrine of Hazrat Haji Abdul Rahman and is also famously known as Panch Peer as it has five graves of his followers surrounding it.
Responding to the incident, the dargah committee criticised the actions calling it outrageous. A member of the dargah committee expressed his anger and said, “Such incidents cannot be tolerated.”
Official statement from the authorities is awaited as several social media users pointed out that the incident, if neglected, might create chaos in the society.
